Eco Factor: Sustainable architecture for Taiwan’s Chinatrust Bank.

The Chinatrust Bank has often been referred to as the “Best Bank in Taiwan.” The bank is now looking not only to benefit its customers with its practices, but to benefit the environment on the whole with a newly designed skyscraper that has broken ground in Taiwan. Designed by Los Angeles-based NBBJ Architects along with local Fei & Cheng Associates, the development will consist of a 30-story main building, which will serve as the headquarters of the Chinatrust Bank.

Researchers estimate that once the glaciers are gone, many metropolitan cities across the world will be submerged in water, making life miserable. No, we are not here to again talk about ingenious ways to save the glaciers, but we just want to make sure you don’t sleep in a soaked bed once that happens. UK-based Kingsley Architects have designed a modern, low-carbon living space that seems inspired by a camper van.

Eco Factor: Self-sufficient home design is powered by solar energy.

Designers over at System Design Studio have designed a new prefab home, which with its abilities and self-sufficiency might transform our knowledge of a “modular home”. The basic concept of the home consists of a module, which meets the daily living needs of an ordinary household. The basic living space has three standalone units – bathroom, kitchen and storage. The rest of the space can be used to add more modules that can be used as living rooms, children’s rooms and bedrooms.

A green roof can be much more than just a lawn on a building, and the concept is much older than many people realize. Creative green roof designs date back to the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the original ancient wonders of the world.
